Presented here are three policy briefs summarising the EU and other stakeholders’ prevention strategies towards violent extremism in the Balkans, North Africa and the Sahel, and the Middle East.

D5.1 Policy brief – the Balkans

This brief analyzes the EU and other stakeholders’ prevention strategies towards violent extremism in Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and Serbia, with the aim to outline the dominant external approaches and narratives behind the prevention and countering of violent extremism (P/CVE) and the perceptions thereof by local stakeholders and other domestic voices. On this basis, it offers a number of policy recommendations.

D6.1 Policy brief – North Africa and the Sahel

In looking into the P/CVE policies and projects that are deployed in Algeria, Libya, Mali, Morocco, Niger and Tunisia, this policy brief examines how the EU’s endeavour to prevent and counter violent extremism is substantiated in practice – both on a case-by-case basis and across cases. It offers policy recommendations, focusing on how to develop a more context-sensitive and evidence-based approach to P/CVE.

D7.1 Policy brief – the Middle East

This policy brief maps and analyses the PVE strategies of the EU for the last decade. It also assesses the national PVE strategies of key partners of the EU (Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates) to see whether these are consistent with, or contradictory to, the measures taken by the EU. It ends by providing a number of policy recommendations for the EU’s future PVE strategy.
