The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (SSSA) is a public university committed to standards of excellence, accredited by the Italian Government through the Ministry of Education, University and Research. Founded in 1987, it is among the three officially sanctioned special-statute universities in Italy, being part of the process of Superior Graduate Schools in Italy (Grandes écoles, or Scuola Superiore Universitaria).

In 2018, the Times Higher Education ranked SSSA 1st best University in Italy and 9th in the world among the best young universities (under 50 years old). The Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research ranked SSSA’s DIRPOLIS Institute as the 3rd best department of political science in Italy, and the 1st among small universities.

The SSSA mainly operates in the field of applied sciences, offering undergraduate, graduate education and training courses opened to students, professionals and officials from international organisations. The Scuola offers a multi-disciplinary approach to learning, research, and internationalization.

The SSSA educational activity is organised into two classes, each comprising three scientific areas: the Class of Social Sciences (Economics and Management, Law, Political Science) and the Class of Experimental Sciences (Agricultural Sciences and Biotechnology, Medical Sciences, Industrial and Information Engineering). The SSSA also hosts six research institutes and it is the Institute of Law, Politics and Sustainability (DIRPOLIS Institute) that will be engaged in PREVEX. Both the SSSA and the Institute’s strategic development are supported by an International Advisory Board.
